Pressure ulcers
also known as bed sores or pressure sores, often occur
in persons who cannot move around easily. The skin and
tissue underneath break down from continued pressure and
poor circulation. When the skin breaks down, it becomes
red. Open sores develop after the skin changes. In
severe cases, the pressure ulcer causes destruction of
muscle or even bone underneath the skin.
A medical
report indicates the average inner pressure of a human capillary
vessel is 32mmhg (see fig. A) When the pressure outside
is over 32mmhg, the blood will flow slower, or even
become obstructed. As the time goes on, due to bad blood
circulation, the cell inside the tissue will cause
necrosis of the muscle; pressure sores and ulceration
will soon follow (see fig B).
An alternating
mattress is designed for people who lay on the bed for a
long time, whose bodies are not able to turn over regularly,
or who can not move. it is easy to develop pressure
sores since the weight of the patient is concentrated on
specific bulge parts of the bones (see fig. A), such as
head, shoulder, elbow, back, hip, ankle and so on.
Therapy
Low Pressure Pump and Mattress System.
Alternating
pressure relief gently massages the epidermis while continuously
changing contact points with the skin's surface every
ten minutes to provide ultra low pressure (30 mmgh to 50
mmhg) to cover 50% of the surface area. Ultra low
pressure help support healthy blood flow, tissue oxygenation,
and nutrient and waste exchange.
